Huang Min

Huang Min was born in Tongjiang, Sichuan in 1975. She received her BA in oil painting from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1998 and her MFA from the Third Studio of the Oil Painting Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2006. She now lives and works in Beijing.

“As curator Du Xiyun once wrote, ‘Huang Min’s work reflects both broad reflections on China as a whole and detailed observations of specific regions.’ Over the years, Huang has focused on the survival, emotional tensions, and social predicaments of ordinary people—transforming these lived realities into powerful figurative narratives imbued with personal politics.”

Her subject matter evolves with time, but a realist sensitivity and civic awareness remain at the core. The human body often anchors her compositions, and her use of material is both grounded and dynamic. Painting, for Huang Min, is not only a medium of self-reflection—it is a way of engaging with reality.
