陈曦 | Chen Xi
陈曦，出生于新疆，是中国当代重要女性艺术家之一。1991年毕业于中央美术学院油画系第四画室，现为中央美术学院教授、博士生导师，工作生活于北京。她是九十年代后期“后新生代”的重要代表人物。
Chen Xi, born in Xinjiang, is one of the most prominent contemporary female artists in China. She graduated from the Fourth Studio of the Oil Painting Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1991. She is now a professor and doctoral advisor at CAFA and lives and works in Beijing. She emerged as a key figure among the “Post-New Generation” artists of the late 1990s.
她的艺术轨迹跨越三十余年，在表现主义、观念主义与具象叙事之间不断切换，以一种极具创造力的方式回应社会变迁与个体经验。90年代起，她关注青春、身体与社会的张力，逐渐发展出独特的“兔子”符号系统，将个体的困惑与时代的焦虑折射进公共语境。
Spanning over three decades, Chen Xi’s practice traverses expressionism, conceptualism, and figurative narrative. Since the 1990s, she has delved into themes of youth, the body, and social tension—eventually developing her iconic “Rabbit” motif to articulate personal disquiet and collective anxiety in an era of rapid change.

陈曦以文学、历史图像与社会现实为素材，建构出一系列带有精神性隐喻的作品，从记忆与日常出发，投射出个体在时代裂隙中的不安、探问与追寻。
“The rabbit is me—and also us.”
Drawing from literature, historical imagery, and everyday reality, Chen constructs works laden with metaphorical depth. Her paintings emerge from memory and the everyday, projecting restlessness and inquiry amid the cracks of time.

She has published eight monographs. Her works are widely collected by public institutions including CAFA Art Museum, the University of Hong Kong Art Museum, the Women’s Museum in Denmark, Beijing Minsheng Art Museum, Sichuan Fine Arts Institute Museum, Chengdu Art Museum, Jinji Lake Art Museum, and the Lin Fengmian Foundation, as well as numerous private collectors. Her work is included in the Chinese Art History of the 20th Century in five language editions: Chinese, English, Italian, French, and Korean.
